Mateo’s Victory!

Mateo attends Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy and joined the Cross Country team in the Fall. He loved being a part of it and was always ready to go and full of energy!
His best meet was the St. Benedict’s Invitational. This 2-mile race was Mateo’s longest distance yet. He was really struggling towards the end of the course.

The entire team came together to run the last mile with him. The team members had already run their own 2-mile races, but really wanted to support him and get him to the finish. The spectators were cheering him on the whole way, making for an emotional and triumphant finish for Mateo!

Mateo’s teammates were given the opportunity to encourage and cheer on their fellow student. This helped them practice teamwork and compassion for others. When a student with special needs becomes a part of a school, all the students benefit and grow in virtue!
